Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys wins National Youth Parliament Competition 2000

Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys wins National Youth Parliament Competition 2000

A team of students from the Canterbury Simon Langton Boys Grammar School travelled to Westminster to be presented with their award, tour the House and take tea at Number 10 Downing Street.

The Simon Langton Team debated the highly contentious issue of whether the British Head of State should be elected. The school improved on last year's result when they finished second.

Lord Phillips of Sudbury, Chairman of the Citizenship Foundation, commented:
"The Motorola Youth Parliament Competition goes from strength to strength at a time when public loyalty to the parliamentary process seems less and less secure. If the students of Simon Langton Grammar School for boys are anything to go by, the political future of Britain looks bright."
